The Konjac plant is a well known vegetable in Asian countries, widely grown in China, Japan, India and Korea. The plant grows from a large corn up to 25 cm in diameter with single leaves of up to 1.3 m across. These leaves are so-called bipinnate, which means that they are divided into numerous smaller leaflets. The flower is a dark red and grows up to 55 cm long.
Our products are grown and made in China, The original Japanese product we were not able to import anymore after the tsunami in Japan a few years ago. China is the biggest konjac producer in the world. This is due to the geology of the country as our crops have to grow on 500 meter plus heights in a specific climate and are only harvested once every three years. Glucomannan is a soluble dietary fibre is derived from the Konjac roots. Glucomannan is a water-soluble polysaccharide which is a dietary fibre that makes you feel fuller for longer and may assist in weight management. Soluble fibre aids the digestive system and may be beneficial for preventing constipation. Soluble fibre can be found in fruits, vegetables, oat bran, barley, nuts, seeds, beans, lentils and peas.
As the range is made from a root vegetable called Konjac, it is very different to your traditional pasta, noodles and rice. Slendier has a different consistency than regular pasta, noodles and rice. The texture is al-dente, the colour is translucent and whiter than your regular pasta, noodles or rice.
The Slendier range also retains its texture; as they are pre-cooked. Preparation only takes 1 minute. All you need to do is rinse, drain, leave it in boiling water for 30 seconds, drain again and you’re ready to go. It will not turn “gluggy or “stodgy” like regular wheat pasta, noodles or rice which generally occurs if you overcook them.

Calcium Hydroxide is an approved food additive used in our products. It is commonly used in Konjac products and in the food industry as a low toxicity firming agent. Slendier products contain only 0.15% of Calcium Hydroxide. In Australian food regulation, Calcium Hydroxide for food is additive No. 526 which can also be described as “Mineral salt”. Slendier products have very low levels of fructose. In fact it is less than 0.2 grams per 100g. This makes Slendier a great substitute for many grain based alternatives in a low FODMAP diet.
We suggest that you prepare the whole pack as per instructions on the pack. We recommend a serving of 125g (half of the pack) per person per meal to be taken with 1-2 glasses of water. If you choose not to prepare/consume the entire pack the product will keep for 1-3 days if properly sealed and left in a refrigerated area.
Once you open the pack there you will notice a slight odour. This is due to the natural smell of Konjac and the brine that the range is kept it. Please rinse the water thoroughly and keep it in boiling water for up to 1 minute. After preparation you should notice that the smell disappear.
The Slendier range has high water content. The range is made from Konjac vegetable flour which has an enormous swelling capacity with water. This means that it will freeze easily, but when the ice crystals melt during thawing, you’re left with soggy limp and inedible food.
Slendier Organic Fettuccine is made from organic, raw Konjac as opposed to the non-organic counterpart in the rest of our range. Therefore the organic Slendier range may differ in appearance and/or texture to include tiny brown specs.
The fact that Slendier is significantly lower in calories and carbohydrates compared to regular wheat pasta, rice and noodles it is a fantastic start to eating healthy and limiting your calorie and carbohydrate intake.
